Preguntas Frecuentes
Why do I need solar powered vent in my roof?
Adding solar powered vents to your roof is an easy way to extend its lifespand and prevent many common issues that are associated with poor ventilation.
Why would I need solar powered vents during summer?
Reason 1: Prevent baked shingles
During the day, heat builds up inside the attic to the point that it can be considered extreme heat (50C/130F) This can cause your roof’s shingles to deteriorate and curl faster than normal. This happens because the shingles are literally being baked from the inside and could result in your roof failing early.
Reason 2: Keep your living space cool
Heat from the unconditioned attic space can seep into the living space, making it uncomfortably warm during summer months. This is especially true in older homes. In cases where there are air ducts passing through attic, the extreme heat will warm up the ducts and any air that passes through, eventually reaching your living space.
Solution: Solar powered vents installed across your roof will cool your attic space, resulting in longer lasting shingles, a more comfortable living space and a lower A/C bill.
Why would I need solar powered vents in my roof during winter?
Reason 1: Keep your attic dry
During the day, heat builds up inside the attic and creates an environment that is warmer than the colder temperatures outside. This difference in temperature can allow condensation to form inside the attic. Over time this can cause very serious issues including rotting of the roof’s plywood or attic rain (where condensation freezes, then melts and drips over and over again)
Reason 2: Prevent Mold
In areas that are dark and damp, such as an attic with condensation, mold tends to grow. Mold can weaken the integrity of your plywood become a serious health hazard. Mold can even reduce the quality of the air you breath.
Reason 3: Prevent Ice Damming
An attic that repeatedly heats up and cools down due to lack of airflow will melt snow/ice in areas of the roof which will run water down closer to the eaves. This water will eventually freeze because it is no longer being heated up by a portion of the roof. This process will continue over and over until there is a large buildup of ice in certain areas of your roof, which can be damaging due to the weight of the ice, and even act as a falling safety hazard.
Reason 4: Keep your Insulation dry
Condensation forming in the attic can seep into existing insulation, causing it to become damp or wet. Insulation that has absorbed condensation will lose its efficiency and the R-Value will drop, making your home less efficient.
Conclusion: Solar powered vents keep your attic dry during the winter, equalize attic temperature and help prevent condensation related issues. Because the vents exhaust air using fan, they do all these things much faster and more efficiently than traditional passive ventilators.
Why else would I want solar powered vents in your roof?
Reason 1: Improve Airflow
It is very common for attic spaces to have poor airflow because traditional roofing vents rely on natural airflow. The amount of air flowing through the attic naturally is never constant. It can change depending on the outside temperature, the attic’s temperature, humidity %, wind velocity, roof pitch, # of vents installed and even your homes position relative to the geographical landscape. This being said, it is very common for attic spaces to have poor airflow and sometimes have none at all!
Reason 2: Not enough vents on your home
Sometimes, your previous roofing contractor did not put enough vents on your home due to the shape of your roof. Hip roofs often have large attic space and are pyramid shaped, leaving very little space for ridge vent or putting multiple exhaust vents as required. Not having enough exhaust ventilation can cause problems during summer and winter.
Solution:
Canada Go Green solar powered vents are working for you all day long. Each vent moves up to 400 Cubic CFM (Cubic Feet of Air per Minute) and will greatly improve the amount of air flowing through your attic. In cases where you do not have enough vents installed on your roof, replacing them with solar powered vents will increase their efficiency drastically.
Other Frequently Asked Questions
Do your vents make any noise?
No, Canada Go Green vents are absolutely silent. If you put your ear close to the unit, you will only be able to hear the sound of air swishing through. The only exception would be our largest model (4 Seasons HP) which makes a light humming noise due its larger, more powerful motor.
Are they animal resistant?
Yes, our vents are all animal resistant because they are made of an ABS/Polycarbonate mix which is nearly impossible to chew through, or tear off. Keep animals out of your attic by using our vents!
Do they have a battery?
No, our vents use a direct current system and have no battery in between.
Do they work at night?
At night, our vents will be ventilating passively. Because the sun’s rays are not hitting the roof and creating heat buildup inside the attic, less airflow is required to keep it cool.
Do I need an electrician to install Canada Go Green vents?
No. Because of their simple design, any roofing contractor can install our products.
Are these vents hail resistant?
Yes, our solar panels come coated in tempered glass and the plastic is made of an ABS/Polycarbonate mix which makes them extremely durable. Each vent hail resistant.
How long is the warranty?
